Shibari as Couples Therapy

Some couples go to therapy, and that’s fine. But, for us, the idea of going to a stranger’s office and telling them our most intimate secrets was just not good. Moreover, the thought of paying them tons of money and spending what might become months or years working with them, was totally unconvincing. I would have never imagined that we would end up using Shibari as couples therapy.

On the other hand, we knew we had to do something to improve our relationship. We argued frequently and our relationship was embittering quickly. After exploring some other options, we decided to try Shibari.

We came to it with an open mind and agreed to practice both roles: rigger and bottom. We soon discovered that Shibari was helping us even before we tied the first knot. There were so many things we had to discuss before the actual scene, that, before we realized, we were communicating in a way we hadn’t done for months. Moreover, we discovered that each of us cared deeply for the other’s safety.

Being attentive to every reaction and emotion of the other showed us how much we already knew about each other, and how much we still could discover. By no means was our relationship exhausted, as we had thought.

And it was so sexy! Each scene took us far away from routine and boredom, and into new realms of discovery. We haven’t finished exploring the basics, and we already have a whole new repertoire for intimacy. We can’t wait to reach higher levels of skill and creativity.

Shibari might not be for everyone, but we think all couples can learn something from it. After all, trust, communication, and spice are useful and beneficial for every couple’s intimate life. And, if you are into BDSM or kink, Shibari is an essential practice.

So, instead of endless hours of speaking, we suggest you try something that will bring you and your special someone closer together. Guaranteed. That’s why I now recommend Shibari as couples therapy.

This is our Shibari story.
