Make your Rope Look Good and Feel Good

Once you are into rope bondage or Shibari, it is very likely that you want a really nice rope. When the rope arrives, it will be a little stiff. I will give you some tips to make your rope look good and feel good. Remember this tip only applies to natural fibre ropes such as hemp, or jute.
The first tip is boiling your rope. Boiling will take the stiffness out of the rope. Boiling forces the fibres to expand and separate.

It is important to make sure the water covers the rope completely, and keep an eye on it.  Boiling your rope for 2 or 3 minutes will work. Once you remove the rope from boiling, it will feel solid and rigid. However, once it dries out, you will love the softness of your rope.

The second tip is to polish your rope. Polishing will help the loose fibres stick out at once, and you will be able to remove the loose fibres afterwards. To polish your rope you will need to take one end of your rope and run it over a smooth beam or through a cabinet. Wrap the back end around itself 2 or 3 times, pull each end back and forth in your hands a couple of times sawing the rope against itself 2 or 3 times. This will make your rope polish against itself.
After polishing your rope, there will be loose fibres in the rope, so you can use a gas flame or a gas-powered stovetop to run the rope above a flame and singe off the loose fibres.

You need to be careful doing this and not burn the rope. After this step, your rope will be a lot smoother, without any loose fibres.

Now you know how to make your rope look good and feel good.
