Make your rope smell and feel good

If you are into Shibari, you are probably interested in learning how to make your rope smell and feel good. The machine smell is pretty strong and you might want to fade that smell away.

You can add some substances to the rope. What you add to your rope is a very personal choice. Some of the most common substances are hand cream, oil, beeswax, or a mix of them.

Beeswax is good for aligning the fibres of your rope and strengthening the core. Also, like any other wax, it gives a partially waterproof coat to the rope, but the beeswax adds some weight to the rope and it makes it feel strong and solid, but it is also pretty easy to clean.

Beeswax and Jojoba feel softer and heavier, and generally with a nice smell. Both Camellia and Jojoba oils are a great choice for treating ropes. They are light oils, odourless, they are fantastic for the skin and penetrate easily into the fibres of the ropes.

Olive oil has almost identical properties to camellia oil, except that is more viscous, so it is more likely to stay on the surface of the rope and skin, rather than penetrating inside the fibres of the rope. Coconut oil is a warm and dry oil, so it’s basically a solid so it’s a little harder to penetrate into the fibres, but it works and the smell is amazing. Hand cream is also a good option, it will soften the rope, and with a very nice smell.

The good thing about all these substances to treat your rope is that they interact pretty good with the body, so it’s not that common for someone to have a reaction with these treatments.

Now you know how to make your rope smell and feel good.
