Shibari workshops are always a good idea. Whether you want to learn the basics, improve your skills, or step into the advanced levels of bondage, you will always get something valuable out of them. If you’re thinking of attending one soon, here are 5 tips for a Shibari workshop that will help you get the best out of it.

Tip one: Bring your own ropes. Many studios will provide training ropes for their students, which is a good idea if you’re a beginner and you still don’t have your own ropes. However, a rope is like a toothbrush, something personal. So, as soon as you can get your own ropes, it will be better.

Tip two: Bring your own partner. Once again, for individual students, instructors might organize couples for the exercises, or provide professional partners. Nevertheless, since there are strong emotions involved in Shibari, it is better to do the exercises with someone you know and trust. Moreover, there is also a power dynamic involved. And you might not feel comfortable submitting to a stranger or dominating someone you don’t know.

Tip three: Be willing to learn. The worst kind of student is the one who only wants to show off. You all know the kind. It’s the typical jerk who thinks they know more than everybody else, including the instructor. Don’t be that person. Instead, be willing to learn, even if you think you already know the topic at hand.

Tip four: Accept failure. Learning takes time. And, at first, you will fail many times. This is normal, and the sooner you take it as a fact, the faster you’ll overcome the mistakes phase.

Tip five: Find your Shibari. Just as your voice and your writing, you have a specific Shibari style that is all your own. It might not be visible yet, but some day you will find your own personal style of Shibari. Don’t try to imitate anybody else. Find your own way.

May these 5 insights serve as guiding stars on your Shibari workshop voyage. Each knot, each weave, and each connection speaks to a transformative journey. As you traverse the intricacies of ropes and emotions, remember that within you lies the power to craft an indelible narrative, one knot at a time.

We hope you find these 5 tips for a Shibari workshop useful.
