Kinbaku Immersion Workshop is an intermediate- or strong-intermediate-level workshop.
Prerequisite:
* Rigger: You are confident with a rope, any style. A plus is knowing the RopeMarks style. You know how to safely perform a basic suspension. A plus is experience with dynamic suspensions and transitions.
* Model: You are able to recognize and communicate good and bad bodily sensations and are familiar with the differences between nerve and circulation impingement. A plus is experience being suspended in basic suspensions.

This is a full-day workshop in which you will learn to do and be in dynamic suspensions. We will teach you the noble art of transitioning between suspensions. Suspensions in general, and dynamic suspensions even more so, are never without risk. Our goal with this workshop is to provide you with essential knowledge and create a safe, shared experience that will empower you to carry forward what you’ve learned once you return home. Therefore, the emphasis will be on safety, technique, and communication. If you have followed our previous workshop(s) before you will be refreshed and renewed, and we will progress your skill for dynamic suspensions.

Some Context

Within Japanese rope bondage, the gote is generally at the heart of any suspension. In this workshop, we will not only use gote’s but also see how the gote is a classic part of Japanese rope bondage and kinbaku. This is the tradition RopeMarks teaches in, so we find it important to start with gote. During this brief start of the workshop, we will use your skill in tying a gote and being in a gote to assess your general proficiency with Japanese rope bondage. As a famous kinbakushi once said, “kinbaku begins and ends with a gote.”

In the Kinbaku Immersion Workshop, you will be tying on bamboo, and there are many ways to tie off uplines, but which way do you choose when and why? We’ll continue the workshop by taking you through various exercises to help you really understand this.
