Recording a Shibari Scene
In a time when every cell phone is a camera, recording a Shibari scene is very easy. However, it’s not just a matter of technical feasibility. There are many important factors you should consider when recording a Shibari scene.
First of all, all participants in the scene should consent to having pictures or video taken. This is no small matter that can go undiscussed. So, make sure to have everyone’s agreement to the recording. Second, make sure you have high-quality equipment. Nobody likes a pixelated video or a grainy picture. Third, be extra careful with the lightning of your scene; make sure to avoid any unfavorable shadows. Finally, be clear who is in charge of what. And, preferably, choose someone who has experience with photography or video. This will prevent your recording from engrossing the never-ending list of shaky-shoulders, worthless video or the tons of pictures taken without any idea of composition or framing.
Each participant must decide whether they wish to remain anonymous or not. If so, make sure to keep their face off the frame of the camera. Or convince them of wearing a mask, so that no one can recognize them. In the same vein, you must also decide whether the material is going to be destined for private use only, or if you want to share it on some platform. Many people feel okay with a visual or an audiovisual keepsake of their Shibari session, as long as it remains private. However, those same people may feel uncomfortable with the idea of it becoming public.
Once you have green light from everyone involved, make sure to plan the recording of your session. Taking a lot of pictures or putting three cameras to record doesn’t guarantee that the resulting pictures and videos will be interesting. Give some thought to where you are going to place the cameras and what specific images you want to capture. Don’t just shoot a pose but look for the perfect angle to do it. Of course, if this sounds too complicated for you, or if you don’t want to get distracted from the scene, you can always hire a professional to do the recording .
