Sometimes it is necessary to clean your rope. In this post, you will learn how to clean your Shibari rope for optimal results. How to clean your rope depends on the situation in which it got dirty.

If your rope got some dirt or dust you have at least 4 different options on how to clean it. The first option, and the least damaging one, is to get a damp rag. Then, you just hold it in your hand and run the rope through it. You can also use wet wipes to get the job done.

The second option is to immerse the rope in a bucket of water and hand wash it. This method works when the rope is slightly more dirty.

The third option is to put your rope in the dishwasher. Since the dishwasher does not agitate your rope the damaging is less than in the washing machine. The dishwasher machine will also sanitize your rope, just remember not to put dishes with the rope. The last option is the washing machine, it is the most damaging method for your rope, but it cleaned it. Remember to hang your rope to dry it.

If during your Shibari scene you used wax, your rope might have dried wax on it. The most simple solution to this problem is to boil the rope and let the wax seep into the fibres, this will strengthen and waterproof the fibres of your rope creating a stronger core. Another option is to freeze the rope, this makes the wax easier to pick off. Other options you can do regarding wax are using heat, boiling, or with their drying to flat iron over baking paper, this will melt the wax and make it easier to remove it.

Regarding organic material as sexual fluids, saliva or blood, the option is to treat your rope with wax and oil to partially waterproof it, before you use it, but in order to clean the human fluids, you will need to sanitize your rope. The best option is to isolate the particular piece of rope from others with plastic, get a large bucket of water, add a few drops of bleach and run your rope through it. You can let your roam soak for 30 minutes and then hung it up somewhere under tension to dry in full sunlight.

Now you know how to clean your Shibari rope.
