Safety Is Essential
You know the story: a boy finds his dad’s gun hidden in the closet and causes a tragedy. Well, that’s similar to what happened to me, although there were some differences. First, it wasn’t a gun, but my Shibari kit of ropes. Second, my son is no boy, he just reached 20. And finally, to my great relieve, we still were able to prevent a tragedy. It was the hard way for my son to learn that, in Shibari, safety is essential.
I live alone. I divorced my son’s mother more than ten years ago. Among other things, she couldn’t cope with the fact that I’m kink and, consequently, vanilla sexuality is not enough for me. My son comes to visit me from time to time. Now, I don’t hide my girlfriends from him, as other divorced parents do. Moreover, according to his age, I’ve gradually explained to him my unconventional tastes.
I guess he got curious, or perhaps he accidentally found my stuff. The point is that he decided to try Shibari with a girlfriend of his. I don’t have a problem with that. If my son chooses to be kink, that’s fine. But he was not prepared and, therefore, it all ended up in disaster.
I received one of those calls that are a nightmare for any parent: Dad, I tied my girlfriend and she fainted”. I immediately realized that this was an emergency due to lack of skill. So, I instructed my son to use the safety scissors to cut the ropes. Then, we took his girlfriend to the hospital. Fortunately, she suffered no severe injuries. So, once she was discharged by the doctors, the three of us agreed not to say anything, and we took her home.
Once at home, I had a long talk with my son. And if I’m sharing this story today is because I want anyone willing to try bondage to consider all the safety measures and precautions necessary.
That’s why safety is essential in Shibari.
