Helsinki Shibari
Helsinki Shibari is a community for all rope lovers. If you are an expert or new in rope, you are welcome. Helsinki Shibari organizes Peer Rope, Workshops, and the famous Helsinki Shibari Festival. Most of the events take place at Esitystaiteen keskus, Sali I in Helsinki.
In Helsinki Shibari, you will find safe events where everyone is welcome. All genders, sexualities, backgrounds, bodies, abilities and roles will feel comfortable at the events. Helsinki Shibari, like every other event, has its rules. Assuming another identity or history is not allowed. Racist, sexist, homophobic or other oppressive behaviour are not welcome. It is a must to respect other people’s intimacy, personal space, boundaries and closets, to ask before touching, to give people space when they are negotiating, playing and doing aftercare. No genital play. No Photography allowed. Do not drink and tie. Instead, share your knowledge and enjoy!
Peer Rope in Helsinki Shibari welcomes everybody, alone or together. You can also rehearse ties on yourself at the beginning. However, for more advanced workshops, you need tocome with a partner so you have someone to practice with.
Helsinki Shibari also has several workshops & Jams, for newbies, as well as for experimented practitioners, for partners or you could also attend alone if the workshop allows it. Each workshop has specific requirements depending on the theme of the workshop, but you will find a variety of workshops with are suitable for everyone.
The festival has been going on four times where you can find different theme workshops, intimate space for more sexual play, social space for chatting and socializing, rope jam where you will find a space to gather altogether to play, share what you have learned and to get to know each other better with snacks and drinks, and a spectacular evening of performances by the international presenters of the festival that ends with a short session of Questions & Answers with the performers.
