Ecofriendly Shibari
Everybody seems to feel a concern for the environment nowadays. So, it was just a matter of time before a rope lover who is also someone worried about climate change and pollution would try to combine these two passions. And that’s how ecofriendly Shibari came into the picture.
What is ecofriendly Shibari? It’s basically the same as the regular Shibari, but with a stronger concern for the ecological impact of a scene, and a constant strive for communion with nature. Sounds complicated? It isn’t.
Ecofriendly Shibari doesn’t use artificial lighting for its scenes. Likewise, participants in this kind of scene don’t use plastic materials. Quite the opposite, they value organic ropes as an example of harmony between humankind and nature.
Ecofriendly Shibari scenes take place preferably outdoors, since this provides participants with a unique opportunity to commune with nature. The idea is that nature becomes a participant, too. Providing the lights, the space, and the weather for the scene.
The most frequent theme in ecofriendly Shibari scenes is our natural bond with nature. People who participate in these scenes frequently speak of a very special awareness of nature as another participant involved. Just as top and bottom feel an emotional exchange among them, they both feel a pleasant and frequently overwhelming emotional current between nature and them.
Feeling at ease in an environment that we usually find threatening can provide a strong sensation of wellbeing. And that’s not a minor psychological benefit.
As with all things ecological, it’s not everybody’s cup of tea. And, while some people just can’t get enough of this new form of Shibari, others just consider it a hollow fad. Whatever your opinion, you should give it a try. After all, the worst that can happen is having a great day outdoors, and that doesn’t sound bad, does it?
