Zee Maitri
Zee Maitri is a French artist, who learned the art of bondage in Tokyo. He is a recognized photographer, rigger and rope artist who resides in Paris and New York. Zee has been tying knots since he first learned to tie his shoes. And his passion is to travel around the world working on a collection of images for a book on Shibari. He is one of the 10 most amazing photographers around the world in the art of Shibari.
Zee Maitri photographs are often dark, with models suspended in mysterious rooms that look otherworldly. Likewise, they give a sense of solitude, abandonment and waiting. Actually, it is as if the scenes happened in an empty warehouse, where something bad is about to happen.
Most Shibari practitioners, make collaborations between the Shiabri artist or rigger and the Shibari canvas, or bottom, in order to create a combination of effects that includes visual beauty, power exchange, helplessness, relaxation and subspace and top space physiological experiences. Riggers enjoy creating beautiful images, with different scenery, locations, models and themes.
In the case of Zee Maitri, he combines Shibari and nudity with mystery. Consequently, he deepens the sense of respect, admiration and submission. Moreover, his images share a mysterious sensuality, which is very attractive for the audience. Therefore, his photography is always dark and mysterious. He tends to show nude women in “dangerous, dark and mysterious situations”.
In his amazing and dark work he applies the Damsel in Distress imagery with a touch of mystery. Some of his famous photographs are: Hooked on a Railing, Baby’s got back, Untie Me, Please, Hanging Out, Hangin Up, I’d bend over backwards for some Saki, Bamboo Tranquility, Tangled, Shadow play, Surrender, Azteria, Clover, Geisha, and Artemis.
