Types of Submissive
In any BDSM practice there are two main roles: dominant, called “dom,” and submissive, referred to as “sub”. When Shibari is part of a BDSM dynamic, the bottom (the person being tied) is usually a submissive. Now, not all subs are the same. For the success of any scene, it is important to understand the different types of submissive, and the kind of scene they suit eeach type best.
First we will talk about the service oriented submissive. This is a sub whose joy is serving others, especially their dom. These subs are ideal for artistic Shibari scenes. In these, the rigger needs someone who is obedient and cooperative in order to achieve their aesthetic purposes.
Secondly, a slave sub enjoys domination. Therefore, they are ideal for BDSM scenes, whether their focus is on pain or on sexual purposes. As always, a dom is entitled to submit their partner, but never to abuse them.
Thirdly, a little sub is a partner who likes to engage in age play. Actually, we could include in this category all the dom/sub relationships in which a fantasy element is present, such as role play, cosplay, and such. This kind of sub is ideal for imaginative scenes, whether they are intimate among a couple, or part of a performance.
In fourth place, a bratty sub will play the game of not obeying their dom. Therefore, provoking punishment to befall upon them, as part of a BDSM dynamic.
Last, but not least, rope bunnies are the subs who specifically like bondage. They absolutely enjoy playing with ropes and will be the ideal partners for all Shibari practices: from the most basic knot to the most complex suspension.
As you can see, not all subs are alike. That’s why it is important to understand the kind of sub your partner is and the kind of sub you like to perform with.
Now you know everything you need about the different types of submissive.
