Back on the Ropes

Back on the Ropes

Back on the Ropes is a 2009 book by The Knotty Boys, which is the name that professional riggers JD and Dan use when they work as a duo. Its subtitle is “a step-by-step, illustrated guide for tying sensual and decorative rope bondage.” In other words, this book can be helpful for both Shibari and Kinbaku practitioners. Illustrations are provided by Ken Marcus, who is a recognized erotica photographer.

The book offers a complete guide for the performance of sixty-one different ties. It also provides the reader with tips and advice accumulated after a decade of working together, along with the authors’ previous experience as professional riggers. Even though the authors published another book before (Two Knotty Boys: Showing You the Ropes, in 1999), this is a standalone book, which you can read on its own.

The authors also dedicate several pages to the always important issue of safety. The risk involved in rope bondage is real and, therefore, any good advice should be welcome. It is important to mention that the Two Knotty Boys offer their tips in the most clear and fun manner, which makes it easier for the reader to understand.

The book includes advanced topics, such as harnesses and what the authors call “maximum exposure ties”. It also includes a complete glossary of bondage terms.

The authors state in the foreword that one of their objectives is to demystify bondage. Many people has traditionally understood bondage as a weird, unusual practice. However, it turns out to be one of the most common fantasies. That is everyone should discuss it openly and without guilt. And that’s what the Two Knotty Boys do in their book. Back on the Ropes is a helpful, fun guide into the most complex and interesting aspects of rope bondage. It is written by seasoned experts who know what they are talking about.
