Shibari with Bondage Tape

The first time we tried Shibari, it was a disaster. My husband was so ashamed that he couldn’t stop apologizing. I had several horrible red lines all over my skin because of the friction caused by the rope. I barely could sleep, and, when I took a shower, I couldn’t resist hot water for a couple of days. Had I known we could practice Shibari with bondage tape…

You see, I come from a Chinese family. My skin is extremely white. My husband loves it. When we’re in bed, he calls me “China doll”, but it comes with the problem of being quite fragile. I have a bag full of treatments and cosmetics that I have to use just to keep it in good condition.

One day, we were cuddling each other while watching TV, and we ended up watching what we later knew was a pink film: an erotic Japanese movie. It included several bondage scenes. And the truth is that we got so excited by watching those games of restraint, that we ended up making love on the couch (something which had never happened before).

So, we decided to try Shibari, and my husband bought a few ropes. We thought that, since they were organic jute ropes, I wouldn’t get hurt. Boy, were we wrong!

I ended up with these horrible red lines across my skin, and I could barely sleep for a couple of days. It was very uncomfortable! But we didn’t want to quit Shibari, so I asked my husband to look for another solution.

That’s when we found out that you can also use bondage tape, which is great because it doesn’t have glue. Of course, bondage purists will say that if you don’t use ropes, you’re not doing Shibari. But I believe that if the sensuality and the emotional connection are still there, it is still Shibari.

Bondage tape turned out to be a great solution, and it is not a bit less exciting and fun than traditional rope Shibari.

This is my Shibari story.
