Shibari for Boomers
Everybody has heard about generations. If you were born between 1946 and 1964, you’re a boomer. If it was between 1965 and 1980, you’re a member of Generation X. And, if you were born between 1981 and 1996, you’re a Millennial (others will call you a member of Generation Z). Finally, if you were born in 1997 or later, you’re part of Generation Z, also called Centennials. Now, if you’re under 18, you shouldn’t be reading this. And, if you were born before 1946, it is not advisable for you to practice bondage. Having said that, in this article we will discuss Shibari for boomers.
First of all, you can still practice Shibari. And don’t let anybody tell you that you’re too old for bondage. It’s just that you cannot practice all sorts of Shibari, but those according to your age. Suspension might not be advisable, unless you’re in pretty good shape. Floor positions, on the other hand, are a good option. Even if your health situation only allows you to try some knots or a chest harness, that’s ok. One rope is enough.
Let’s focus on what you can do, instead of talking about what you can’t. You have something in a greater amount than any other generation: life experience. And you should bring that to Shibari. Tell a story in your scenes. More importantly, tell us your story. Express your memories through rope, your discoveries, and also your fears. Tell us who you have been, so that we can understand better who you are now.
Use professional help if you need it. That doesn’t matter. Your scene still belongs to you. Looking for a professional rigger or a model to play bottom is not an intrusion, but an enhancement of your scene.
Finally, keep things safe, but don’t focus on safety. That is, don’t suffer a scene, as if every step of the way were about to end in disaster. Quite the opposite, enjoy the scene and do as much as you can do, and as much as you feel comfortable doing. That’s the key.
