Shibaristanbul

Shibaristanbul opened in 2017 in Turkey. Its founders were volunteers with a strong interest in the art of Shibari and Kinbaku. They were looking for the right space. A place where practitioners and lovers of Japanese rope bondage could gather, practice and learn in a safe environment.

Shibari is the erotic art of Japanese rope bondage. It originated as a rope-based martial art used by the Japanese samurai. However, it later evolved into a love language and artistic expression in Japan’s culture.

Turkey did not have any Shibari-related group, even though there were many people interested in the art of Shibari. That’s why RopeJam, a medical doctor who became interested in Shibari in 2016, founded Shibaristanbul. Ropejam’s enthusiasm led him to develop a community of rope lovers and practitioners. The idea was to grow together, practice together, and learn together as a community. Ideally, lasting friendships should develop from a mutual interest.

Shibaristanbul’s goal is to reach new participants with an interest in Japanese rope bondage. Then, it aims to assist them and guide them through the exploration of Shibari. Their goal is to encourage practitioners to grow their knowledge and guide them in the right direction, as well as to compile resources for current practitioners, and provide a safe place for every relevant individual regardless of gender or age.

Shibaristanbul is a place in Turkey where rope lovers can enjoy and practice in a safe and inclusive environment. Actually, there is always respect here. Sibaristambul is a place where every sex, race, faith, and body is accepted and respected. Additionally, it is free of attacks or violence against others based on ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender. Likewise, it doesn’t discriminate based on religion, age, or disability. Moreover, it is a place where consent is essential in practices and workshops.
