Profiting from a Shibari Workshop
Several studios and professionals offer Shibari workshops. Either for the beginner or the skilled enthusiast, these workshops are always a good idea. However, it is important to learn how to get the most out of these sessions. Profiting from a Shibari workshop is as important as choosing the right one.
First of all, attend all sessions. This might sound obvious. And yet, you would be amazed at how many people only go to the first class and then abandon the workshop. Frequently, people feel overwhelmed by their first experience with bondage. They leave with the idea that it is too hard and takes too long. And that discourages them. Now, while it is true that Shibari requires discipline and does’nt offer immediate results, this is no reason to quit. Quite the opposite, if what the instructor says sounds difficult, it means that they are a responsible professional, who rather be honest and prioritize safety. On the contrary, if someone promises you’ll be doing suspensions by the end of class two, that’s most probably a charlatan. So don’t get discouraged if it sounds difficult. Well-performed bondage is.
Another important point is to practice as much as you can. Most classes, even if they are two hours long, don’t provide enough time for students to practice enough. Ask whether you can stay in the studio and practice more time or do it at home. If someone teaches you a new knot and you only do it a couple of times, it might not be enough. On the other hand, if you practice an extra hour after every lesson, you will be among the most advanced students, without a doubt.
Finally, if you really learned something valuable, show your gratitude. Professionals feel very motivated when someone appreciates their effort. As you see, profiting from a Shibari workshop depends on you.
