Rope Bite Pgh
Rope Bite Pgh, is a dojo in Pittsburg, PA, dedicated to facilitating quality rope and Shibari education. Its goal is to provide safe and inclusive venues to learn, practice and play in a spacious and well-equipped environment. It was born as a social group of people interested in forms of rope bondage, including Shibari and Kinbaku. Rope Bite gives members the opportunity to share their skills and meet other bondage enthusiasts.
There are Rope Bite groups all around the United States and the world. The dojo, founded in March 2011, by Russ, who is a photographer, producer, rigger, rope maker, and educator, is in Pittsburg. Rope Bite Pgh, began as a Gay and Lesbian Community Center. They were about 30 people who gathered together for a monthly Shibari Class. Over the years, Rope Bite Pgh grew and evolved into an open skillshare and practice time.
Rope Bite Pgh, in 2018, began with intensive and long format classes in order to allow people to learn more. Likewise, they wanted to make sure customers understand all of the concepts compared to one hour or fewer classes.The Body Shop Pittsburgh, provided a well equipped and inclusive space in which they began hosting national and international presenters for ropes and shibari intensives, as well as holding numerous educational, practice and play events.
The dojo paused all in-person events during the pandemic in order for all to stay safe, but they host Rope Fundamentals as an online class, which will be of small groups to get you tying and ready for more advanced instruction in-person once they begin with the classes again. In Rope Bite Pgh, you will learn rope, about the types of ropes, rope care, coiling rope, rope safety info, upline techniques for suspension, as well as Rope Fundamental I and II notes.
