Assisted Stretching in Shibari
Shibari is the act of tying up a person for aesthetic purposes using a rope. Although Shibari is often used for sexual pleasure, it is also a form of meditation, relaxation and trust-building between partners. In a previous article, we talked about the importance of stretching in Shibari. As with any other physical activity, warm-up and stretching are important in order to avoid any injuries. Assisted stretching in Shibari is a good idea to take care of your muscles.
In this article, we will talk about Assisted Stretching. This is very helpful to prepare your muscles, joints and body for the scene. It will also build a connection with your partner before the scene. Assisted stretching will allow both the rigger and bottom to connect and prepare together for the scene. Assisted stretching will help the bottom increase the flexibility for different types of ties, and is also a good way to set the scene and get in the right mood before getting into rope.
The rigger can assist the bottom in arm stretches which will help increase flexibility in box ties. The bottom should stand or sit in front of the rigger with the arms parallel behind the back in the box tie position, where the rigger will squeeze your elbows very gently towards each other. It is important to let the rigger know when you are at the limit and hold it for 10 to 20 seconds in order to stretch it fully. Remember to be aware of your breathing and use it so you can squeeze your elbows a bit further. Repeat this a couple of times with a relaxing time between stretches.
Assisted stretching in Shibari will help you be more flexible and will work on the positions you will try later with the rope.
