Beyond Tying – Beauty
Shibari is not only a matter of ropes. There are many elements involved, beyond tying – Beauty, for example, can be achieved even in a modest Shibari scene. And you should understand how to create it.
As any human activity, Shibari is capable of beauty. Moreover, since it is a practice that is emotionally charged and that requires true artistic talent, it is no surprise that we find so much beauty in almost any bondage scene.
To achieve beauty, you should first consider the setting of the scene. That is, don’t just do it anywhere. Consider the lights, the colors, the clothes (or the absence of them), the ropes. Each of those elements can be ordinary or artistic, depending on how much thought and creativity you put on them.
Watch your scenes from different angles, as if you were part of the audience and not a participant in it. How would you react to the scene? Do you like it? This will help you to understand better what you’re trying to express with your scene.
Be creative. Above all, try new things. Change what you have always done in the same way. Sometimes, the difference between something artistic and something ordinary is just a minor tweak.
See the forces on your scene. Is it a still, silent scene? Does it express a sort of frozen movement? Do you sense strength in it or does it show weakness? Think about this for a while, and then make whatever changes you consider necessary.
Finally, follow your intuition. Do not justify rationally every decision you make. Give yourself the opportunity to just follow your instincts. This might lead to wonderful, unexpected results. The logic of Shibari is not the everyday logic of ordinary actions. Let yourself flow and see where it gets you.
There are many elements in a Shibari scene beyond tying – Beauty is one of them.
