Fabio da Motta

Fabio da Motta is a Brazilian photographer that makes rope bondage a little more poetic. This is because he shows the human body in relation to nature, flowers, plants and animals.

Fabio da Motta was born in the south of Brazil and moved to Sao Paulo when he was 19. There, he studied Graphic Design and Photography. In 2004, Fabio had the opportunity to pursue his own work. He wanted to show people that BDSM can be intense but poetic, through the art of Shibari.

Fabio believes that rope bondage can be liberating, as opposed to the idea of seeing bondage only as a dominance and submission interaction.

Fabio’s first came to contact with BDSM, in one of his romantic relationships, which usually have a Kinky, dominant side. The idea of using Shibari as a form of art came when he was working for a queer magazine, where he came up with the idea for a fetish photoshoot, where he invited a Shibari master. Fabio was amazed by the beautiful work and fell in love with the art of the clean knots and shape of Shibari.

In 2015, Shibari became part of his work, since he wanted to add a new element to the scene, that could interact with both people and space. Shibari was perfect because it focuses on the aesthetic aspect of the art and the beauty of tying.

Fabio’s work shows a different approach to Shibari, in which he exposes nude bodies with flowers and other natural elements. Apart from showing a different perspective of Shibari to people, he also aims to liberate the queer body, by using nude queer people in his work, where he is going against the traditional Catholic beliefs that the Brazilian society is based on.
