Telling something is not right during a scene
Shibari is a form of Japanese artistic rope bondage. Its purpose is to tie and restrain others. As Shibari means tying, it involves some risks. Knowledge and practice helpt to avoid many risks. However, things can still go wrong during the scenes. This is true, even if you have taken all the safety measures. That’s why we cannot overemphasize the importance of telling something is not right during a scene.
A Shibari scene consists of two people, the one who is tying, called the rigger and the one who is being tied, called the bottom or bunny. If someone gets injured during a scene, it is important to tell your partner that something is not feeling right. The bottom is usually the one who gets injured. Consequently, both participants must be aware of what is going on and to recognize if something does not feel right. If you feel partial numbness or pain, it is important to let the rigger know so they can untie you quickly and take you to a check-up. This will help avoid permanent injury or surgery. Telling something is not righ during a scene is part of the participants’ responsiblity.
If you are feeling pain or numbness, don’t be shy about telling something is not right during a scene. This can really make a difference between a small injury or a surgery. If you are new at practising Shibari remember that injuries are easier to happen due to miscommunication, inexperience, malice or neglect, but still as an expert can happen.
Remember that speaking at the right moment during a scene can avoid injuries or medical emergencies. Always remember that the most important thing in Shibari is communication! don’t even be shy about saying what you are feeling, it is for your own sake.
