A Couple of Open Letters – Answer

A woman, let’s call her Tiffany, has been a rope enthusiast since her teens. She’s now an experienced bondage enthusiast, capable of playing both rigger and bottom. And she loves every minute of every scene she does. Tiffany has a friend; let’s call him Zack. Zack is a hundred percent vanilla. Dirty talking is dirty to him, so he has never tried it. “Dear Tiffany,

I have read your letter a couple of times. You know how much I value each word that comes from you. I also did some research, and talked to some friends. I think I now have a better understanding of things.

You see, when you come from a strict vanilla environment, just like I do, it’s a little bit hard to tear down the prejudices that older people have instilled in you. My first reaction, my disgust, was nothing but the sum of all the misconceptions I had been loaded with. Forgive me.

I think I now understand what you mean by ‘consent’. In this context, it is not just a spontaneous, unspecified agreement. Quite the opposite, it is something that people discuss thoroughly before taking any action.

I still think that BDSM and bondage are not for me. I don’t feel the slightest enthusiasm for such practices. However, I feel a growing respect for you, and for the people who have chosen this lifestyle. I guess it’s quite an adventure. It’s just not my kind of adventure.
