Shibari and Common Fetishes

Shibari is one of the most flexible BDSM practices. It can be combined with almost any other interest within the kinky realm. Shibari and common fetishes mix up together very well. For this article, we conducted a survey online, and this is what our interviewees had to say.

Blindfold. Being deprived of sight while you’re getting tied up is one of the most common combinations of Shibari with common fetishes. Many of the people we interviewed agreed that this is a winner. It allows the bottom to concentrate on all the things that are happening on their skin, while it allows the top to wonder just exactly what is going on inside their bunny’s mind.

Lingerie. Many people adore Shibari in the nude. However, when that’s not possible, the second-best thing is to provide the bottom with a wonderful set of lingerie. The people we interviewed agreed that colored lingerie against the monotonous color of the ropes makes for a wonderful combination.

Spanking. Shibari comes from Hojojutsu, which is an ancient technique of torture. Therefore, it’s no wonder that people usually associate bondage with punishment practices. We all know that the most frequent and acceptable punishment practice is spanking. So, it’s no wonder to find it on this list.

Sex furniture. All Shibari needs are ropes. However, you can also use furniture to increase the options available for your scene. Sex furniture, on the other hand, is currently trendy. That’s why it is no surprise to find out that many couples practice Shibari with the help of a piece of sex furniture.

Handcuffs. This is an interesting one, since it stirred a discussion among the people we interviewed. For the purists, the use of handcuffs destroys a Shibari scene, for it is a cheap, unimaginative resource, without the artistic possibilities offered by the ropes. For those on the practical side, however, it was a quick help for a scene; and, since both ropes and handcuffs provide restraint, they saw no contradiction in using them together.
