Live Suspension Performance
As part of their Rope Week, the “Free the Kink” Facebook group offered a two-hour Live Suspension Performance. It was delivered by Graham Oliver and model Holly Burton.
Since it was first announced, the performance generated interest among the members of “Free the Kink”. From their comments and questions, it is possible to deduce two things. First, that interest in bondage is increasing every day. Second, that, since there are many skills and risks involved, people look for advice to make sure their scenes work out well.
As for the performance itself, it says much about Graham’s ability as a rigger that he was able to do three different kinds of suspensions in less than two hours. Likewise, the understanding with his model, Holly, and the emotional connection between them was evident for all those who watched the live transmission of the performance.
The suspensions included a “Gravity Boot”, which is basically an upside suspension. Then, they did a “One Rope Agura”, in which the model ends up in a sort of rope swing. And, finally, Graham aimed for a very complex suspension which included a chest harness, a hip harness, and several movements and transitions.
Some people in the audience noticed, and liked, that Graham accompanied his performance with a playlist. Using music in a Shibari scene is a good idea. It helps set a relaxed, confident mood, and it also provides the participants with a strong sense of rhythm.
As its always the case with suspension, you should not try to imitate Graham’s performance unless you’re also a skilled rigger. Suspensions involve many risks and are always a difficult task. Therefore, you should never try anything beyond your current level of skill. Although, you can always learn, practice, and increase your level of performance.
Graham Oliver’s complete live suspension performance can be seen on the “Free the Kink” Facebook group. You can also follow him on Instagram, as “Maestro Gioioso”.
