Pedro Cordas

Pedro Cordas is a Rope Artist, performer, video editor, inspiring rigger and educator who resides in  Lisboa, Portugal. Pedro has performed mainly in Portugal, especially in Lisboa, where he resides. However, he has also participated in events across Europe, including the famed London Festival of the Art of Japanese Bondage. In the US, he has showned his work in the Bondage Expo Dallas. He has been teaching for several years from beginner to an experienced level around Portugal, Europe, USA, and Australia.

Pedro’s journey with rope started in 2003, while he was visiting Tokyo, and where he was Osada Steve’s first student back in that year.  In 2004, Padro took classes with Nawashi Akechi Denki Sensei. After Akashi Denki’s death, Pedro continued to study with Nawashi Kanna, formerly Akechi Kana today, who is a strong influence in Kinbaku as well as Akechi Denki.

Pedro travels frequently to Japan to keep alive the passion for rope, where he studies and makes research of the new techniques in Shibari, where he can learn from the multiple rope salons, which have many talented rope people and where you can learn a lot of Japan and its rope culture, as well as to work in his art projects in Japan.

During his journey in rope, Pedro has met, seen, and learned from many great people such as Yukimura Haruki, Nureki Chimuo, Naka Akira, Randa Mai, Miura Takumi, Hajime Kink and more. Pedro began to explore Akira Naka’s style is the one imparted by Naka Akira, especially after the workshop in Berlin in January 2014, which made him investigate the number of Hojojutsu patterns as well as its history.

Pedro Cordas is also the filmmaker of Jyowa “Rope Stories”, which is a documentary film that presents Japan’s 5 top artists.
