Community Festival with Shibari

Every year, in the residential area where I live, there’s a community festival, in which all the neighbors that sign on to it can perform on stage. Some of them sing, some of them dance, and some of them do magic tricks. And yes, it’s as boring as it sounds. But not this year. This year, we rocked at the community festival with Shibari!

The kids singing out of tune; the amateur magicians, who can’t pull off a trick; the hipster guy who recites a poem that nobody understands—you name it!

That’s why, this year, my friend and I decided to wake everybody up with something they had never seen before. You see, we do Shibari together. In case you don’t know, Shibari is the Japanese art of bondage. We’ve taken several workshops, and I’d say we’re pretty good together.

So, when the time came to sing on for the festival, we described our number as an “ancient Japanese gymnastic exhibition”, which totally misled the organizers as to what we were actually going to present.

When our turn came, my friend pulled out some ropes, each one dyed a different color, and I took the stage barely dressed, and looking as sexy as you can imagine!

We tried a few floor positions, and then, for the big finale, I tied myself up while my friend explained to the audience the emotional power of Shibari. In the end, everybody applauded, and, even though no prizes were awarded, I’m sure we were the best!

I became sort of a local celebrity in the days following the festival. And I would lie if I said I didn’t like the attention we got after we rocked at the community festival with Shibari.
